From Spreadsheets to Spotlights: How CASS Helped Light Up the Night for Cancer Research

When you run a business the way Paul and the team at CASS (Cloud Accounting Support Services) do, with genuine care, a roll-your-sleeves-up attitude, and a real commitment to doing the right thing, it’s no surprise that giving back comes naturally.

CASS is a family-owned cloud accounting business based in Tamworth, and if you’ve ever worked with them, you’ll know they’re not your typical accountants. They’re the kind of people who go above and beyond to get to know you as they care.

A Connection That Counts

Paul Barnes, founder of CASS, is a proud member of Connect Links. Which is a small but mighty networking group founded by Donna Reed and based out of Atherstone, Warwickshire. It’s the kind of group where real relationships are built, and it was through Connect Links that Paul met Cheryl Barnacle.

Cheryl has been volunteering for Cancer Research UK for years, and her story is one that stops you in your tracks. She lost her husband to cancer in 2009, and rather than let grief have the last word, she channelled it into something extraordinary. She’s dedicated herself to raising as much money as possible for the charity. To date, she has raised £808,708, and she is absolutely determined to reach £1 million.

That kind of dedication deserves to be celebrated. Paul thought so too.

CASS Steps Up as Headline Sponsor

When Connect Links decided to organise a charity ball to support Cheryl’s mission, CASS didn’t hesitate. Paul signed CASS  up as headline sponsor and volunteered Ali to be on the organising committee, because that’s just who they are.

The night itself was a brilliant one. Guests enjoyed a fantastic disco, a magic mirror, a 360 experience, an auction, and a raffle. It was the kind of evening where the energy in the room matches the cause behind it. And the cause was very much front and centre.

The Result? Something to Shout About

The night raised an incredible £5,727.12 for Cancer Research UK. Which is a wonderful contribution to Cheryl’s remarkable journey toward that £1 million milestone.

It’s a figure that represents so much more than money. It’s a room full of people who showed up, dug deep, and chose to be part of something bigger.

Save the Date — It’s Happening Again

The event was such a success that it’s coming back. Mark your calendars for 20th March 2027, and if you’d like to register your interest for next year, drop an email to donna@clnetworking.co.uk

Whether you’re looking to attend, sponsor, or simply show your support, we’d love to see you there.

Team CASS Launches Season 2 of Its SME Growth Podcast

Following the success of our recent webinar series and live events, Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) has officially launched Season 2 of the Giving You More Than Numbers – the CASS Business Support Podcast.  It’s a practical, honest and supportive series designed to help SME owners make better decisions and feel less alone in business.

After strong engagement throughout 2025, the new season builds on CASS’s commitment to supporting smarter growth – not just faster growth – with conversations that tackle the real pressures business owners face every day.

Supporting the person behind the business

Season 2 moves beyond theory and focuses on the reality of running a growing company. From financial clarity to leadership pressure, each episode is designed to give SME owners the knowledge, confidence and perspective they need to make the right choices.

Because the truth is – it can be tough being a business owner.

Long hours. Big decisions. Responsibility for people’s livelihoods. And often, very few places to talk openly about it.

That’s exactly what this podcast aims to change.

As Paul Barnes, Founder of CASS, explains:

“We know that running a business can feel isolating. You’re expected to have the answers, stay positive and keep pushing forward – even when things feel uncertain.

Season 2 is about giving owners practical insight, financial clarity and reassurance that they’re not on their own. If we can help someone make one better decision, or feel more confident about the path they’re on, then we’ve done our job.”

What to Expect in Season 2

This season’s line-up reflects the real conversations CASS has with clients every day:

  • The Owner’s Headspace
  • Building a Business With an End in Mind
  • Busy Is Not a Business Strategy
  • The Numbers That Actually Matter
  • Getting More From Xero (Without Living in It)
  • People, Pressure & Performance
  • Decisions That Shape the Business
  • Tax Planning Without the Panic

Each episode blends practical financial insight with lived experience, giving listeners clear frameworks they can apply immediately (without overwhelm).

The focus isn’t jargon or theory. It’s clear.

The aim isn’t just growth. It’s sustainable, confident decision-making.

Real Conversations. Real Challenges. Real Businesses.

Season 2 of the Giving You More Than Numbers – the CASS Business Support Podcast is now live and available on all major podcast platforms. Please click here to go to our podcast page.

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) Thanks Staff with Half-Day Leave for Employee Appreciation Day

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) is recognising the value of its team this year by giving employees the opportunity to book a half-day off as a thank you for their hard work.

Cloud Accounting Support Services, based in Tamworth, introduced the initiative to mark Employee Appreciation Day, allowing staff to take some time back when it suits them.

The gesture reflects growing awareness among employers that recognising staff contributions plays a key role in motivation and retention. Research shows that 88% of British employees say they work harder when they feel appreciated at work, yet nearly one in five UK workers say they have never been thanked by their employer.

Paul Barnes, Managing Director of Cloud Accounting Support Services, said:

“Running a business is always a team effort and we’re incredibly grateful for the hard work our staff put in every day to support our clients. Offering the team a half-day off that they can book when it suits them felt like a simple but genuine way to say thank you and recognise the effort they consistently bring to the business.”

As a growing SME, the Tamworth firm says investing in its people is central to maintaining a positive workplace culture and delivering high-quality service to its clients.

Karen Kirby, HR Consultant at Greenshoot HR, says recognition doesn’t need to be complicated to make a difference.

“Employee appreciation is about creating a culture where people feel valued and recognised for the contribution they make. It doesn’t have to be grand gestures, often the most meaningful recognition is simply giving people flexibility or acknowledging their efforts. Small actions like offering time back can have a big impact on morale, wellbeing and staff retention.”

As businesses across the UK continue to focus on employee wellbeing, initiatives like this demonstrate how even small gestures of appreciation can help build stronger teams, improve morale and create workplaces where people feel valued for the contribution they make.

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) commits to year-round free support for SMEs following successful finance webinar

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) has reaffirmed its commitment to helping local and regional businesses grow and thrive, following the success of its latest webinar, The Three Pillars of Smart Finance: How to Build a Business That Grows – and Lasts.

The session, led by founder Paul Barnes, brought together SME owners and leaders looking for practical, real-world guidance on managing growth without burning out. Building on the strong engagement and feedback from attendees, CASS has announced that across 2026 they will deliver free monthly advice sessions, webinars and podcasts, shaped directly by the needs and challenges of its clients, and open to the wider business community.

Supporting smarter growth – not just faster growth

The 20-minute webinar, followed by a live Q&A, distilled insights from Paul’s well-received talk during the Festival of Entrepreneurs into a clear and accessible framework for growing businesses. While many SMEs manage the basics well, the session highlighted why smart finance becomes critical as a business scales.

The webinar focused on:

  • The Three Pillars of Smart Finance every growing business needs in place
  • The mindset shift founders must make as they move from survival to sustainable growth
  • How to gain clarity around cash flow, hiring decisions and expansion plans
  • Practical frameworks to support better decision-making in 2026 and beyond

As Paul explained during the session, growth should feel exciting – not overwhelming.

“Too many businesses fail not because they lack ambition, but because their financial foundations haven’t evolved as they grow,” said Paul Barnes, Founder of Cloud Accounting Support Services.
“At CASS, we’re passionate about turning numbers into decisions. By offering free monthly sessions, webinars and podcasts across 2026, we want to make sure more business owners have access to the insight and confidence they need to build companies that last.”

Real impact for real businesses

Attendees praised the webinar for its clarity, relevance and practical focus.

“It was refreshing to hear finance explained in a way that actually relates to the decisions we’re making day to day,”

“The Three Pillars framework gave me real confidence about where to focus next – and it’s great to see CASS opening this kind of support up to more businesses.”

Looking ahead to 2026

CASS’s new programme of free monthly content will include:

  • Short, practical webinars
  • Open advice sessions for SME owners
  • A regular podcast exploring real business challenges, opportunities and growth stories

Topics will be driven by current client needs, ensuring the content stays relevant, timely and genuinely useful.

Businesses are also encouraged to get in touch with topic suggestions or questions they would like to see covered in future sessions via email to info@cass-online.co.uk.

Smart Finance for Fast Growth: Our Highlights from the Festival of Entrepreneurs

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) had the privilege of attending the Festival of Entrepreneurs at the NEC Birmingham. It was billed to be the UK’s most ambitious gathering for growing businesses, here’s our round up of if it was! Over two days, more than 5,000 entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders came together to share strategies, tools, and connections to take growth to the next level.

From 150+ leading speakers to 100+ solution providers and 70 sessions across 4 stages, the festival was brimming with fresh insights, real-life success stories, and powerful opportunities to connect.

Our Moment on the Scale-Up Stage

One of the highlights for us was seeing our founder, Paul Barnes, take to the Scale-Up Stage on Wednesday 8th October. His session, “Smart Finance for Fast Growth: What Every Founder Needs Beyond the Basics”, was designed to give ambitious entrepreneurs practical tools to:

  • Understand the financial drivers of scale-up success
  • Harness cloud technology to improve cash flow and visibility
  • Move beyond bookkeeping basics and start thinking strategically
  • Build financial resilience while seizing growth opportunities

The session sparked brilliant conversations with founders, scale-up leaders, and investors who recognised the importance of getting their financial foundations right while planning for expansion.

What We Took Away

The festival reinforced what we already know at CASS: growth isn’t just about ambition, it’s about building the right systems, teams, and partnerships to make that growth sustainable.

Some of our biggest takeaways included:

  • Funding is within reach but investors want to see strong financial clarity.
  • Culture and cash go hand-in-hand high-performing teams are supported by transparent financial practices.
  • Tech is a growth enabler from cloud accounting to AI-driven analytics, efficiency tools are now non-negotiable.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud to have played our part in such a dynamic event, and we’re excited to keep the conversations going with the brilliant business owners we met.

If you attended Paul’s talk and would like to continue the discussion – or if you couldn’t make it but want to learn how smart finance can help you scale faster we’d love to hear from you.
