From Spreadsheets to Spotlights: How CASS Helped Light Up the Night for Cancer Research

When you run a business the way Paul and the team at CASS (Cloud Accounting Support Services) do, with genuine care, a roll-your-sleeves-up attitude, and a real commitment to doing the right thing, it’s no surprise that giving back comes naturally.

CASS is a family-owned cloud accounting business based in Tamworth, and if you’ve ever worked with them, you’ll know they’re not your typical accountants. They’re the kind of people who go above and beyond to get to know you as they care.

 

A Connection That Counts

Paul Barnes, founder of CASS, is a proud member of Connect Links. Which is a small but mighty networking group founded by Donna Reed and based out of Atherstone, Warwickshire. It’s the kind of group where real relationships are built, and it was through Connect Links that Paul met Cheryl Barnacle.

Cheryl has been volunteering for Cancer Research UK for years, and her story is one that stops you in your tracks. She lost her husband to cancer in 2009, and rather than let grief have the last word, she channelled it into something extraordinary. She’s dedicated herself to raising as much money as possible for the charity. To date, she has raised £808,708, and she is absolutely determined to reach £1 million.

That kind of dedication deserves to be celebrated. Paul thought so too.

 

CASS Steps Up as Headline Sponsor

When Connect Links decided to organise a charity ball to support Cheryl’s mission, CASS didn’t hesitate. Paul signed CASS  up as headline sponsor and volunteered Ali to be on the organising committee, because that’s just who they are.

The night itself was a brilliant one. Guests enjoyed a fantastic disco, a magic mirror, a 360 experience, an auction, and a raffle. It was the kind of evening where the energy in the room matches the cause behind it. And the cause was very much front and centre.

 

The Result? Something to Shout About

The night raised an incredible £5,727.12 for Cancer Research UK. Which is a wonderful contribution to Cheryl’s remarkable journey toward that £1 million milestone.

It’s a figure that represents so much more than money. It’s a room full of people who showed up, dug deep, and chose to be part of something bigger.

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) Thanks Staff with Half-Day Leave for Employee Appreciation Day

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) is recognising the value of its team this year by giving employees the opportunity to book a half-day off as a thank you for their hard work.

Cloud Accounting Support Services, based in Tamworth, introduced the initiative to mark Employee Appreciation Day, allowing staff to take some time back when it suits them.

The gesture reflects growing awareness among employers that recognising staff contributions plays a key role in motivation and retention. Research shows that 88% of British employees say they work harder when they feel appreciated at work, yet nearly one in five UK workers say they have never been thanked by their employer.

Paul Barnes, Managing Director of Cloud Accounting Support Services, said:

“Running a business is always a team effort and we’re incredibly grateful for the hard work our staff put in every day to support our clients. Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) has reaffirmed its commitment to helping local and regional businesses grow and thrive, following the success of its latest webinar, The Three Pillars of Smart Finance: How to Build a Business That Grows – and Lasts.

The session, led by founder Paul Barnes, brought together SME owners and leaders looking for practical, real-world guidance on managing growth without burning out. Building on the strong engagement and feedback from attendees, CASS has announced that across 2026 they will deliver free monthly advice sessions, webinars and podcasts, shaped directly by the needs and challenges of its clients, and open to the wider business community.

Supporting smarter growth – not just faster growth

The 20-minute webinar, followed by a live Q&A, distilled insights from Paul’s well-received talk during the Festival of Entrepreneurs into a clear and accessible framework for growing businesses. While many SMEs manage the basics well, the session highlighted why smart finance becomes critical as a business scales.

The webinar focused on:

  • The Three Pillars of Smart Finance every growing business needs in place
  • The mindset shift founders must make as they move from survival to sustainable growth

Smart Finance for Fast Growth: Our Highlights from the Festival of Entrepreneurs

Cloud Accounting Support Services (CASS) had the privilege of attending the Festival of Entrepreneurs at the NEC Birmingham. It was billed to be the UK’s most ambitious gathering for growing businesses, here’s our round up of if it was! Over two days, more than 5,000 entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders came together to share strategies, tools, and connections to take growth to the next level.

From 150+ leading speakers to 100+ solution providers and 70 sessions across 4 stages, the festival was brimming with fresh insights, real-life success stories, and powerful opportunities to connect.

Our Moment on the Scale-Up Stage

One of the highlights for us was seeing our founder, Paul Barnes, take to the Scale-Up Stage on Wednesday 8th October. His session, “Smart Finance for Fast Growth: What Every Founder Needs Beyond the Basics”, was designed to give ambitious entrepreneurs practical tools to:
