Paul’s Biography

After leaving professional football….
Paul got a job working at Lloyds Chemists in their accounts department. He realised he liked the numbers game. He then went on to explore the wider accounting world and completed his accountancy qualifications.
During his contracting period, he worked with organisations of all sizes and sectors. He would either transition them from one accounting software to another or implement a package for the first time.
Paul has had the pleasure of working with Birmingham City Council, Rolls Royce and Coventry Evening Telegraph to help them transition to new software. As well as review and amend existing or implement new accounting processes.
On the SME side…
Paul was primarily moving them from spreadsheets and manual record keeping to initially, desktop software such as Quickbooks Desktop and Sage Line 50. Then (with the advancement of cloud-based applications) to online solutions such as Xero and Quickbooks Online.
The wide spectrum of organisations he has worked with has allowed him to develop a thorough insight into accounting software solutions. As well as system processes that have been transferrable from business to business.
His last role, before setting up Cloud Accounting Support Services Ltd (CASS) was initially just to transfer from Excel files to Quickbooks Desktop and setup processes. He also provided staff training, but he got offered a permanent position as a Finance Manager which he accepted. 11 years later he had become a 45% owner in the business and during his time there dealt with all the challenges that a small business encounters. Ranging from document capture and authorisation of bills through to cashflow challenges, payroll processing and management reporting.
In 2018, Paul was asked by two friends what accounting software he recommended as they had been advised by their accountant to upgrade Sage Line 50 in preparation for MTD (Making Tax Digital) for VAT as the upgrade costs were extortionate. Paul demo’d, implemented and trained them both on Xero and Dext and they were MTD compliant for a fraction of the cost of the upgrade fee. They introduced him to their accountant, and he has been working with them and all of their clients on the transition to cloud-based accounting software ever since. That is how and why Cloud Accounting Support Services exists.
